Heat Recovery and Thermal Equipment for the Textile Industry

In the textile industry, thermal management directly affects the manufacturing cost per meter of fabric, the carbon footprint, and the plant’s operational stability. Critical finishing stages such as drying and steaming require high levels of thermal energy in the form of steam, hot water, or hot air.

AITESA designs, manufactures, and integrates advanced heat transfer and recovery solutions for the textile industry: air-to-air and air-to-water heat exchangers for humid air streams, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and waste heat recovery boilers (WHRB) coupled with cogeneration, combustion air preheaters (APH), and systems for recovering sensible and latent heat.

Our solutions make it possible to recover the residual enthalpy contained in the hot, humid exhaust air from dryers, drastically reducing natural gas or steam consumption, stabilizing the process’s thermal profile, and improving the plant’s energy efficiency.

Challenges Facing Textile Mills

Heat recovery from textile exhaust air requires a mechanical and hydraulic design tailored to complex effluents. Simply installing a conventional heat exchanger is not enough; it is essential to overcome the severe constraints of the textile process:

  • Obstruction caused by fibers: The continuous drag of textile fibers tends to clog air and fume passages. This requires tube or plate geometries with wide passages and no dead zones, as well as the integration of pre-filters or automatic cleaning systems.

  • Latent Heat Recovery from Humid Air: Much of the energy released in drying facilities is in the form of water vapor. The design must allow for the condensation of this vapor to extract the latent heat, using moisture-resistant materials.

  • Integration with cogeneration systems: In textile plants equipped with cogeneration systems (engines or gas turbines), the production of steam or superheated water must be optimized using HRSG recovery boilers, aligning electricity generation with the plant’s demands.

  • Continuous operation without damaging the tissue: The equipment must be integrated in such a way as to ensure that the pressure drop () does not interfere with the dryer’s extraction, thereby preventing temperature fluctuations that could degrade the quality or uniformity of the fabric’s finish.

AITESA handles every project from conceptual engineering through to supply, and revamping or turnkey EPC implementation. We evaluate the rheology of the exhaust air, the condensate load, and the physical layout within the plant to ensure a rapid return on investment (ROI).

Why AITESA

With more than 40 years of experience in heat transfer engineering for demanding process industries, AITESA provides robust and reliable solutions for the textile sector:

• Anti-fouling thermohydraulic designs: Thermal solutions specifically configured to operate with humid, particle-laden air, facilitating maintenance and cleaning tasks during short shutdowns.

• Specialists in Revamping and Integration: Ability to redesign and install heat exchangers or heat recovery units within existing drying lines or ducts, without the need for complex structural modifications.

• EPC Management and Unified Responsibility: We assume full responsibility (thermal calculations, in-house manufacturing, instrumentation integration, assembly, and hoisting), minimizing downtime and ensuring that the established efficiency parameters are met.

AITESA has participated in projects involving heat recovery, cogeneration, and thermal equipment for textile plants in various industrial settings.
