EPC of a radiant recuperator for a steel plant
By AITESA
Introduction
In 2017, the project for the design and supply of a radiation recuperator for a major steel company manufacturing steel using blast furnaces in France began.
The aim of the project was to decarbonize the production process through more efficient processes and reduce operating costs.
Solution
In this project, 4,400 Nm3/h of air are heated from 40ºC to 680ºC (in a unit of diameter of 2,050 mm and length of 5,600 mm) using the heat from 6,700 Nm3/h of hot gases entering the recuperator at 870ºC. Due to these high temperatures, air enters the equipment at different points for cooling and to prevent impact on the materials.
Results
The thermal power exchanged is 1 MW and with combustion air preheating, a significant improvement in furnace efficiency is achieved.
