High voltage electrode electric boilers

An electric boiler is a device that transforms electrical energy into heat energy which is transferred to water.

The high-voltage electrode electric boiler uses water as a conductive medium through an ohmic resistance mechanism between electrodes in order to increase its temperature and ultimately achieve a phase change.

These electric boilers can be used across a range of different industries including :

– Petrochemical plants

– Food & Beverage Industry

Textile plants

– Industrial plants

– Resorts and Hotels

How are electric boilers designed?

The electric boiler is a pressurized unit consisting of two vessels, one external and one internal. The inner vessel (which is electrically insulated from the outer casing) houses the submerged electrodes, and this is where the energy is supplied to the water. The heat is generated by ohmic resistance in the water between the electrodes, and the boiler acts as a pure ohmic resistance in the main circuit. The water and the inner vessel form an isolated zero point at the star connection between the electrodes.

The boiler load is controlled by regulating the level in the internal vessel. The higher the requirement of energy input to the water, the higher the water level increases with an increase in the submerged surface of the electrodes. This type of boiler can operate in the following range:

  • Voltage 6-24 kV
  • Power up to 30 MW
  • Pressure up to 85 bar(g)

What types of electric boilers are there?

High voltage electrode electric boilers are classified according to the ultimate useful effect achieved in the water :

Electric steam boilers

In this case, the energy supplied to the water is used to heat the feed water to saturation temperature and perform the phase change to steam.

Electric hot water boilers

In this type of boiler, the water temperature is increased but it always remains in a liquid state. For this type of boiler where there is no steam generation, the water is kept pressurized by using a  nitrogen system.
