Conceptual engineering, FEED or FEL

At AITESA we develop conceptual engineering, FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) and FEL (Front-End Loading) studies to define the technical, economic and safety bases of each project.

This phase allows us to evaluate investments with a global, solid and realistic vision before moving on to basic or detailed engineering.

What is conceptual engineering?

Conceptual engineering is the starting point of any industrial project.
At this stage, different design alternatives are analyzed and compared, the optimal solution is selected and the criteria that guarantee the technical, economic and safety feasibility of the project are established.

AITESA applies a multidisciplinary vision and extensive experience to ensure that each proposal starts from an optimized technical basis and is prepared to move forward without risks.

Duration and scope

The duration of a conceptual study is usually between 2 and 6 months, depending on the complexity and scope of the project. During this period, the key elements that determine its feasibility are defined:

  • Analysis and comparison of design alternatives.
  • Preliminary estimates of CAPEX and OPEX.
  • Definition of main specifications of equipment, materials and systems.
  • Preparation of process flow diagrams (PFDs) and preliminary layouts.
  • Feasibility, safety and risk assessment studies.

Accuracy of estimates

The estimates made at this stage are preliminary, but sufficiently robust for strategic decision making. Generally, the accuracy range of CAPEX estimates is between ±25% and ±30%, allowing alternatives to be compared with an adequate level of confidence before committing large resources.

Advantages and application in industry

AITESA applies this methodology in sectors where reliability and efficiency are decisive, such as the energy sector, Oil & Gas, chemical and petrochemical industries and large industrial facilities, offering an integral vision that connects design with operational and sustainability objectives.

Among the main benefits:

  • Greater precision in strategic decision making.
  • Budget and schedule optimization.
  • Reduction of technical, economic and planning risks.
  • Solid basis for basic and detailed engineering.

AITESA not only designs projects, it helps them to take shape from their origin.
