Basic and detailed engineering is the bridge between the conceptual phase and the execution of a project. These are essential steps to transform an idea into a viable, safe and well-defined project.
Basic and Detail Engineering
From the idea to the operational process
After conceptual engineering, the next step is to convert the general criteria into a complete and executable technical design. In this phase, two complementary levels of definition are developed: basic engineering and detailed engineering.
- Basic engineering consolidates the results of the conceptual study, defines the main process parameters, the preliminary sizing of equipment and systems, and allows for highly reliable investment estimates. It is usually the most appropriate phase when the project has not yet decided its final technology or requires accurate information to close budgets or bids.
- Detailed engineering develops and deepens the information generated in basic engineering. Its objective is to prepare all the necessary documentation for the construction, assembly and operation of the facility, with drawings, data sheets, lists of materials and complete multidisciplinary coordination. It is the stage that corresponds to projects already approved or in process of execution, where the objective is to minimize risks and guarantee a construction without deviations.
AITESA combines both phases in an integrated methodology, adapting the level of definition to the maturity of the project and ensuring technical continuity from conception to construction.
Approximate duration
- Basic engineering usually takes 3 to 6 months for medium-sized projects.
- Detailed engineering can take 6 to 12 months or more, depending on the complexity and number of disciplines involved.
Reliable and consistent estimates
- With basic engineering, the level of accuracy in CAPEX estimates reaches a range of ±10% to ±15%.
- In detailed engineering, budgeting and planning are practically definitive, minimizing uncertainty and risks during execution.
Engineering that makes a difference
Well-structured engineering not only makes it possible to build safely, but also to optimize resources, shorten schedules and ensure consistency between disciplines.
At AITESA, each project is approached with an integral vision:
- It is designed to avoid unforeseen events on site.
- It is planned to reduce assembly and start-up times.
- It is coordinated to ensure compatibility between all systems.
The result is a clear, consistent design that is ready to be reliably executed.
This methodology is particularly applicable to energy, petrochemical and large-scale industrial projects, where every technical decision has a direct impact on safety, efficiency and profitability.
This way of working makes it possible to anticipate problems before they appear on site, optimize resources and maintain technical traceability in every decision.
The result is projects that are built as they were designed: with rigor, quality and reliability.
